Big Sam Movers

I would give this company ZERO stars if I could! My husband chose this company because they quoted us nearly half of what two other Jersey City moving companies did..that should have been my first clue. This is the NYC metro, you get what you pay for! We scheduled our move for Saturday at 2:00 pm. We realized that we needed more time, so we changed the date to Monday at 2:00 pm. On Sunday, Diane called to ask if the movers could come Monday morning instead of at 2:00 pm. We said unfortunately not, we would not be ready until 2:00 pm on Monday, so she said alright and kept our timeslot. Well, Monday at 2:00 pm, there are no movers, so at 2:30 pm my husband called and Diane said that it's not her fault, it's raining, and the guys are running late, and we're just going to have to wait. Feeling perturbed, I picked up the phone to call Diane, and when I asked when our movers are coming, she told me "Look, I called your husband yesterday to move up the time, and he said no", as if WE WERE to blame. I said, "How is this MY fault? I booked this appointment for 2:00 pm, you send me an email confirmation for 2:00 pm!!" At this point, I was raising my voice out of the frustration of taking a day off of work and trying to manage a tantrum -throwing toddler while the moving company is blaming ME for THEM NOT SHOWING UP. Reacting to my anger, Diane started yelling, "THEN CANCEL THE JOB CANCEL THE JOB! WE ARE NOT COMING! I don't want any problems! You call somebody else! You and your husband better not call me again! AND YOU BETTER NOT BAD MOUTH MY NAME"
I backed off. Realizing that I should not have raised my voice, I apologized for doing so, saying please, all I want is to move, I cannot take day another day off of work, please just communicate with me as to when they are coming. That seemed to smooth things over. Well, at 3:30 pm, my husband called to ask when the movers are coming, and Diane told him, "They're on their way." "Great!" said my husband, "how far away are they?" Diane replied "They are on their way". At 4:05 pm--TWO HOURS PAST OUR APPOINTMENT--my husband called again and spoke to a man who told him, "You need to have patience." My husband replied, "Well, I have been waiting since 2:00 pm" The man said, "You've been waiting since 2:00 pm? You're lucky! They are some people who have been waiting since morning!" **Um, what the heck??** My husband hung up. at 4:30 pm, the man from the moving company called to say that they are not coming; there's too much rain. **hmmm, I thought they had been "on their way" since 3:30 pm?!!** My husband asked if they could come the next day, and the man said yes, at 9:00 am. "And what if it's raining?" asked my husband. "Then 12:00 pm," the man replied. My husband asked one more question: "What if it rains all tomorrow like it did today?" The man replied, "Oh no, then we can't come".

UNBELIEVABLE. Also if you check google reviews, which I wish I had done!!--you will see that this company is infamous for cancelling on customers!!

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $285

I want to give a fair review of this company.  They showed up on time, agreed to do the move for us on pretty short notice, and packed up the things we had made up with them very well.  Nothing got lost and nothing unreasonable broke. 
The dissapointing part was that when "Sam" (not his real name - the other guys were calling him Mike but he kept pretending Sam was his name) came to give us the estimate we asked him numerous times to give us an absolute price and we even submitted an itemized list of the things we were taking and that he gave the estimate on.  We had heard that lots of moving companies jack up the price as they are putting your stuff into the truck - claiming it was more than you originally made up.  We wanted to avoid this and we asked him in what scenario would the price go up since we wanted to avoid that.  HE TOLD US IT WOULD NOT GO UP as long as we didn't add anything major - he even said we shouldn't worry about small things here and there it wouldn't affect the price. He did say the packing materials would cost us max $150 extra (no other company we have ever inquired about charges separately for the tape..?).  
On the day of the move - once we reached the halfway point he started to grumble that things were not on the list and it was more than the estimate included.  When I showed him that those items were on the list that he had a copy of - he got all upset and started to give some excuse that he didn't see it.  He was arguing so much about it, and we didn't want to make a fuss to the person who was taking our stuff across the country, so we even removed the weight bench that he was claiming he didn't see even though it was clearly on the list.   After that it became so unpleasant; he was arguing with us over every little thing and at the end - argued with us for 45 minutes that we had to pay more since there were more items and that the tape and blankets etc were actually going to cost us $250 (when he promised they would be $100-$150 max).  Ultimately we paid more money than he had quoted us.  Besides being really unpleasant for us it was completely dishonest.  
To make the experience even worse - our address had changes at the last minute and the woman at their office whom we had spoken to assured us that it wouldn't matter.  We didn't have a delivery address for them on the day of the move but she said as long as we got the actual address to them soon they would start the trip.  When we did call back a couple days later with the address  - "Sam" called us back yelling at us that we didn't get it them timely enough and we missed the truck going to Nevada and would have to wait at least 2 weeks for it to return for our stuff to be sent.  In some ways that is reasonable but the lack of communication is startling.  Why didn't someone from the office call us to say - "we need your address by tomorrow or the truck will leave without it.."  Had we known that, we would have provided a neighbor's or friend's address or even a storage facility's address.  Instead we moved into our new house and had to wait an additional 2 weeks for our things to arrive!
Bottom Line: They lied to us promising that the estimate would not change and made us feel extremely uncomfortable on the day of the move claiming we added things when it was very clearly on the list we had provided.  I would say use this company as long as you have the price written down and agreed to before hand - but we tried that and they still raised it!

I thought maybe I was being unfair but after reading some other reviews I realize what I am experiencing is who this company is. Rude and unprofessional .. It's a scam they quote the same price to everyone and then jack it up. And what they do is have one of the workers come in complaining then they say that they have to re do the price. They double my estimate and proceeded to complain and be combative the entire job. I am writing this as they moving me out and they have take. 4 hours and I broke down and had every thing ready to just be moved out. DO NOT USE THEM! I am reporting them to the Dept of transportation because moving is already a difficult experience and these guys are the worst. Mike told me he wasn't reassembling the bed that I had to do it then he told me he wasn't taking a TV and for no reason.. This is insanity btw they were suppose to come at 9:30 am told me I didn't confirm which did and came at 3:30.

Horrible experience.
I would definitely not recommend this to anyone!
They put a hole in our wall, didn't fit everything onto the truck (so we had to move half of our home by ourselves the next day) and they were extremely argumentative
the receptionist/coordinator at the office Diane is also a complete lunatic and unorganized
she quoted us 88 per hour and then couldn't remember that and wanted to charge us 95..
i would not recommend using this company.
